I was just perusing the post about bridge weights, and wondering just what, or which, scale you guys use? I really need a good gram scale, and was wondering about this again. I know this has been covered before, so forgive me. Any recommendations? Thanks! Steve |

Steve, I was just about to make the same post! I found a nice selection at Amazon.com. Looks like for about 40 bucks you can get a small postal scale that should do the trick. My Dad has one of these and it works great for weighing Bridges, braces and hide glue

I have a triple beam balance I like a lot. Under $100 and very accurate. |

This one looks pretty sweet. Is 500 gm enough? I think you should have a couple of weights that you check the scale with before each use. One near the middle of the range and one near the max weight. Just weigh them and verify that they are within the accuracy of the unit. That will verify that it is still working properly Make sure the weights are not subject to weight changes from moisture. |

I use a digit postal scale that I bought at Staples. I can't remember the cost but it was definately under $40 CDN. It is Pelouze, 5 lb capacity and weights to 1/10 of an oz or 1 gram. I like that you can zero these scales with weights on them, great for mixing hide glue and getting cumulative readouts in either direction! I weigh all of my peices with it. I am so new at building guitars that I can't yet equate those weights to anything but someday I will be able too (I hope  )

Hey Serge, The box is closed and has been for a while now. I just need to get at binding this puppy up and then get the neck finished off. Soon I hope! I was back at cutting tops today and I need to do that for a while to get caught up on orders so the guitar is on hold for a bit. My binding jig is pretty much ready for it's test run so I really am anxious to get at it but just can't find the time  .

Steve, The girls at my office purchased it for me, it looks official, either from the Post Office or one of the Office Supply stores. It is a spring loaded rig, old school type. Has the platform on the top and the big dial face looking at you, calls itself a Postal Scale. Works really well for a variety of jobs around the shop and I believe it was pretty inexpensive. Crow, my experience of late on anything digital or needing batteries or to be plugged in from Harbor Freight has not been good. Looks like it will work, and that is low priced. Hi Steve I use a little Ohaus Digital Scale for things like weighing bridges glue etc. 
Weights in Oz and Grams can also be zeroed with say a glue bottle on the platform etc. Its only for light stuff but is accurate to 0.1G |
